Tarpon are the Silver Kings of gamefish. For the angler tarpon represent the apex of saltwater fly fishing. It is the largest gamefish targeted by fly anglers that still requires a long accurate cast and a delicate and technical presentation of the fly. The Florida Keys and Islamorada not only support a substantial residential population, but are the focus of an annual spring migration from both the Gulf of Mexico and the Southeast Coast of North America. Although it is possible to find good numbers of tarpon in February and March, the months of April, May, June, and July are the peak time for serious tarpon anglers to come to the Florida Keys. However, in the months of August through October, opportunities of sight fishing tarpon with the fly rod can be possible as well.
